Getting scenic shots with the Canon 5D for EMC West of L.A. for a documentary in production. Also traveling to Connecticut and North Carolina to film a series of spots for Fidelity Investments. Then off to Northampton for a few days to shoot a new project for Smith College.

 

November/December 2011

Hired by Hiebing, a Wisconsin-based ad agency, to shoot scenic footage in Rockport with my Canon 7D for a restaurant chain commercial. Returning to Palo Alto, CA, to begin filming a series of admission videos for Stanford University. Also traveling to Oklahoma and Mississippi to shoot a special for a coming TLC series.

Back at National Boston Studios to shoot a web ad for a financial company with two Canon 7Ds. Also using a Canon 5D and the Kessler Cine Slider to shoot a film for New England BioLabs.

 

July 2011

Shooting interviews with Brooke Smith and Andre Gregory for the Criterion Collection’s DVD release of Vanya on 42nd Street. Also filming for National Geographic Television's series Alien Deep at the URI School of Oceanography Inner Space Center with underwater explorer Bob Ballard.

 

May/June 2011

Back in Chicago for six weeks to shoot Fields of Valor: Civil War, a 4-part native 3D narrative series for 3net that follows the true story of a dozen soldiers who took part in the conflict. Using the same rig as in our test shoot in March, an Element Technica Quasar with two Red One MX cameras, we're getting a lot of beautiful images. Traveling to Chicago for a 3D test shoot, using two Red One cameras on an Element Technica Quasar rig to film scenes for a 3D Civil War series. I'll be going back in May to DP the four-part series, which will air on 3net, the new 3D network from Sony and Discovery. Read a Hollywood Reporter article on the series here. Also shooting a series of web-based client testimonials for Fidelity Investments at National Boston Studios, using the new Sony F3 in a white limbo setting.

Shooting another segment for HGTV's House Hunters International and spending a few days in New Hampshire for a TV pilot episode still under wraps.

 

January 2011

Doing extensive tests with Panasonic's integrated twin-lens 3D camcorder, the AG-3DA1. Our subjects include a cool dude in a bowling alley, Worcester firefighters, the Boston Globe printing press, and a herd of horses at a ranch in Acton. Despite some limitations, the camera delivered quite beautiful 3D images.

 

October 2010

Traveling to Orlando to shoot a Fidelity Investments ad campaign with my Canon 7D. Also filming Gordon Hamersley of Hamersley’s Bistro cooking up some pumpkin dishes for the camera, and shooting for a documentary on congenital heart disease.

Shooting for the BBC with Harvard Professor Michael Sandel. Traveling to San Antonio, TX, and New York City to continue work on the Culinary Institute of America video. Also filming a segment for HGTV's House Hunters International.

Going to Hyde Park, NY, to start work on a promotional video for the Culinary Institute of America. Also shooting an ad campaign for Fidelity Investments with my Canon 7D DSLR that's proven to be very popular with clients lately.

Using my Canon 7D's low-light capability on an all-night dramatic crime reenactment. Taking advantage of the sensor's 18-mp resolution by shooting the maximum 8 frames per second in continuous photo shooting mode to create several special effect shots. Also filming another segment for the new HGTV show, this time in Florida.

Filming a pilot for a reality show that follows a local artist who writes and choreographs musicals about regular people’s lives. After weeks of planning and rehearsing it ends with a big finale in which the participants perform in front of a live audience.

Finishing the non-narrative segment for the Civil War pilot, with the host being on location in Gettysburg. Again employing a high-speed camera (Phantom V12) to demonstrate the use of Civil War-era muskets.

Shooting Civil War reenactments for a pilot program about Company F of the 1st Minnesota Regiment. Using a Phantom high-speed camera for super slo-mo shots, and employing high shutter speeds on the regular HD cameras to create a staccato effect for the battle scenes. Live fire and extensive use of explosives add to the dramatic effect, as does the season’s first early snow storm.
